Well, Hello There!

April Roller-Morris

Hey there, fellow Quester!

I’m April—your geeky guide through the wild quest that is life. Stubborn as a dwarf (and a bit taller), loyal as Samwise Gamgee, and always ready with a pop culture reference. I believe that even heroes trip over their capes, anti-heroes wrestle with doubt, and sometimes, we’re all tempted to lean into our inner villain for a hot second (especially before that first cup of coffee). And guess what? All of that makes you more powerful—not less.

Life's messy, weird, and full of side quests you didn’t ask for—but those quests? That’s where the good stuff happens.

The Origin Story:
In 2013, my life took a detour straight into the heartbreak multiverse. My husband, Jeremy, lost his silent battle with depression and anxiety at just 32 years old. Our boys were only 5, 3, and 1.5. Grief could’ve turned me into a villain—bitter, cynical, and holed up in my emotional Batcave. But instead, I set out on a Hope Quest, determined to turn that devastating loss into a legacy of light. Suicide prevention and mental wellness became our family’s mission, and every step I’ve taken since has been about turning pain into purpose.

My Resume Reads Like an Adventure Journal:
I graduated cum laude from the University of Central Missouri with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology—skills fit for taking down dragons or, you know, systemic injustice. From there, I earned my M.S. in Criminal Justice while working as a victim advocate (basically real-life Buffy, but with more paperwork). I then leveled up to nonprofit executive director, supporting survivors of interpersonal violence, before returning to my true calling: case management at a local university, guiding students as they navigated their own life quests. And because I’m always hungry for the next epic adventure, I’m now pursuing a Doctorate in Developmental Psychology.

Why Life Coaching?
I didn’t just stumble into life coaching—I was forged in it, like Excalibur. Life forced me to become an expert in resilience, imperfection, and finding humor in the hardest places. I know how to battle the goblins of grief, fight the trolls of self-doubt, and help others discover that their quirks are, in fact, their superpowers. That’s why I started Hope Quest—to be the Dumbledore, Gandalf, or Giles to your hero’s journey.

Why the Prewritten Obituary?
You know that scene where the hero writes a letter “just in case” before heading off to battle? That’s me—but real-world style. I keep an up-to-date prewritten obituary so my kids don’t have to scramble to write one in the middle of their grief someday. I know it sounds a little dark, but it’s really an act of love—one last way to remind them, “Mom had a badass life—and you will too.”

Fandom Cred:
My geek flag flies high for Buffy the Vampire Slayer (What would Buffy do? Usually, punch something), Rainbow Brite (she literally brings color to the world), CHiPs, TMNT, Power Rangers (because who doesn’t want to shout ‘It’s Morphin’ Time!’ every morning), Supernatural (Carry On, Wayward Son is basically my anthem), and beyond. You can find me quoting Yoda one minute and cheering on Ted Lasso’s optimism the next.

Your Quest Starts Here:
Whether you’re the noble hero trying to save the day, the anti-hero navigating your gray areas, or even feeling like the villain of your own story—I’m here to remind you that every great epic has its twists, losses, and second acts. You don’t have to be perfect to be powerful. You just have to keep going.

So, ready to pick up your sword (or pen, or coffee mug) and embark on your next quest?

Let’s quest together.
